Is Wudu valid if a person is wearing contact lenses?
Question
Is Wudu valid if a person is wearing contact lenses? (Hamzah Shaik)
Answer
Yes, Wudu is valid while wearing contact lenses. This is because, during Wudu, it is neither compulsory nor Sunnah to allow water to reach the inside of the eyes. Rather, one should avoid putting water into the eyes, as it may be harmful. Fataawa Hindiyyah states:
Translation: Allowing water to reach the inside of the eyes during Wudu is neither compulsory nor Sunnah. (Fataawa Hindiyyah, Volume 1, page 5, Darulul-Kutubul-Ilmiyyah, Beirut) Similarly, Bahaar-e-Shariat states: Washing the eyeballs or the inner surface of the eyelids is not required. In fact, it should be avoided, as it is harmful.” (Bahaare-Shariat, Part 2, Page 14, Qaadiri Kitaab Ghar, Bareilly Shareef) Therefore, the presence of contact lenses does not affect the validity of Wudu.
