Question

Should the ones that call themselves "Hamid" rather be called "Abdelhamid" instead ?.

Answer

Hamid is derived from the Arabic root 'Hamd' which means 'to praise'. Hamid means 'the praised one'.

It is permissible to call one only as Hamid.

Ask AskImam

Fatawa SA is an independent, read-only index of fatawa already published by Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah (AskImam). It is not a fatwa service. For your own situation, ask the issuing Darul Ifta directly.
