Question
I would like to inquire the following: Is it permissible to read nafl salah on behalf of one's deceased father? So that the father may recieve that reward/blessing.
Also, what are some other acts one can do on behalf of his deceased parent?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is permissible to transfer the reward of nafl ŝalāh to one’s deceased father.[1]
The following are a few examples of actions the reward of which may be transferred to his/her father:[2]
Ŝalāh
Fasting
Charity
Recitation of Qurān
Dhikr
Ĥajj
Udĥiyyah (sacrificing)
