Is it permissible to keep birds in a cage?
Question
I want to know that if it is allowed to keep parrots and other birds in cage as pets?
Some people say that it is is a sin but they do not have any reference.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is permissible to keep birds and parrots in a cage as long as there is no harm being caused to them.[1]

قال في المجتبى رامزا: لا بأس بحبس الطيور والدجاج في بيته، ولكن يعلفها وهو خير من إرسالها في السكك اهـ وفي القنية رامزا: حبس بلبلا في القفص وعلفها لا يجوز اهـ. أقول: لكن في فتاوى العلامة قارئ الهداية: سئل هل يجوز حبس الطيور المفردة وهل يجوز عتقها، وهل في ذلك ثواب، وهل يجوز قتل الوطاويط لتلويثها حصر المسجد بخرئها الفاحش؟ فأجاب: يجوز حبسها للاستئناس بها، وأما إعتاقها فليس فيه ثواب، وقتل المؤذي منها ومن الدواب جائز اهـ.
