Zakah in advance
Question
Every year I distribute Zakaat in month of Zil-Haj, Right now in month of Jamaad al Thani, I want to help some needy families with Zakaat money, can I assume approximately how much wealth I can accumulate till Zil-Haj , calculate 2.5% of that accumulated wealth and distribute the money. Like this my Zakaat for this year will be Valid – Jazakallah.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Your total zakatable wealth for this year can only be known in Dhul-Hijjah (on the day you usually discharge your Zakah). You can however discharge your Zakah in advance by estimating how much will be due in Dhul-Hijjah and discharging it now. You should note this amount. When your actual Zakah date sets in, you should re-calculate your actual Zakah that is due and if there is a deficit, then you should set if off.[i]

(وإن قدم الزكاة على الحول وهو مالك للنصاب جاز) ش: بأن قدم المالك الزكاة قبل حولان الحول والحال أنه مالك لقدر النصاب جاز تقديمه م: (لأنه أدى بعد سبب الوجوب فيجوز) ش: سبب الوجوب هو النصاب ولأنه حق يؤجل كالدين المؤجل، وبقولنا: قال الشافعي، وأحمد، وإسحاق، وأبو ثور، وهو قول الحسن البصري، والنخعي، والزهري، والثوري، والشعبي، ومجاهد، والحاكم، وابن أبي ليلى، وسعيد بن جبير، والحسن بن حي - رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ - م: (كما إذا كفر بعد الجرح) ش: قيد الموت لوجود السبب وهو الجرح.
