Question
ASSALAMUALAIKUM shaik, i have a question, u put my daughter name farzana, i registered already this name, im indian, but my indian ustaz says this name is not good, not good meaning, really upset me, i would like to hear answer from shaik, jazakAllah
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Farzāna (فرزانه) means wise and intelligent.[i]
In principle, it is permissible to name your child with a non-arabic name that has a good meaning.
The name Farzana is of Persian origin and a suitable name. [ii]
Consider the following hadith:
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, “On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and by your father's names, so give yourselves good names.” (Sunan Abu Dawood: 4950)[iii]
We are not aware of the bad meaning your teacher refers to. You may contact us at [email protected] if you need further clarification.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
