The question text was not published separately; the title stands in for it.

Sometimes non-Muslims ask, why our Prayer is so elaborate, and why we perform the various actions. How do we explain?

Answer

Ostensibly, it is 'elaborate' and lengthy. However, our Salaat only takes up 2 - 2.5 hours of our 24 hour day. Allah Ta'ala has created us for the specific purpose of worshipping Him. Devoting a few hours a day to Him, therefore, seems minimal.

Every religion has a set of rituals through which the Almighty is worshiped. Islam also has a form of prayer consisting of certain actions like bowing down, prostrating, etc. These acts of devotion were revealed upon Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) himself. This is why we carry out these actions.

Ask AskImam

Fatawa SA is an independent, read-only index of fatawa already published by Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah (AskImam). It is not a fatwa service. For your own situation, ask the issuing Darul Ifta directly.
