Making A Nazr (Vow) To Recite Quraan
Question
I took a qasam that whenever I do a certain haram action I will read 5 paras of quraan on the next day,and I ended up doing that haram action a few times and didn’t read the 5 paras now I would like to know …is there kafarah for those days I didn’t fulfill my qasam ….does this qasam continue forever….if yes do I have till 12 am the next day if I intended that to read the 5 paras.
Answer
Firstly, one must understand that this is not a Qasam but rather it is a Nazr (vow). Such a Nazr is valid. Therefore, it will be necessary to fulfill it. The Nazr he made continues forever since he used the word “whenever”. There is no time restriction to complete one’s Nazr but it will be best to fulfill it as soon as possible.
However, one has a choice of reading five Paras of Quraan or giving Kaffarah of an oath (yameen) whenever he breaks his Nazr.
