MasbooqSalaah

Question

If a person misses a Rakaat and forgets and makes Salaam along with Imaam on one or both sides, should he make Sajdah-Sahw after completing the missed Rakaat?

Answer

If he unintentionally made Salaam before the Imaam or together with the Imaam, his Salaat is valid. In the two aforementioned scenarios, he will not have to perform Sajdatus-Sahw because his mistake was done in the condition of being a Muqtadi (follower of the Imam), and the mistake of the Muqtadi does not necessitate Sajdatus-Sahw.

However, if he made Salaam after the Salaam of the Imaam, his Salaat will be valid, but he will have to perform Sajdatus-Sahw to compensate for the mistake. What has been mentioned so far is with regard to one who makes Salaam unintentionally.

If someone makes the Salaam intentionally, his Salaat will be rendered void.

Note – The point at which Iqtidaa (the following of the Imaam in Salaah) ends is the Meem of the first “As-Salaam” of the Imaam. If the Masbooq says Salaam after the Imaam has reached the Meem, it is considered to have been said after the Imaam has said it. If he says the Salaam before the Meem, it is considered to have been said before the Imaam has said it.
