Udhiyyah (Qurbani)

Question

Is it okay to qurbaani after the day of Eid? Is it greater in reward on the day of Eid?

Answer

The occasion of Qurbaani expands over a period of approximately 3 days. It commences after the Eid Salaah on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah and terminates with the Athaan of the Maghrib Salaah, i.e. the sunset, on the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah.

Qurbani can be done anytime between these two intervals if one is doing the Qurbani in the city. It is better to offer ones Qurbani during the daytime of these three (3) days, as cutting/slaughtering during the evening without sufficient light can result inunnecessary mistakes occurring.

Furthermore, it is most preferable to carry out the act of Qurbani on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah. This would be the best and most preferred time to do so. Thereafter, the 11th and 12th of Dhul-Hijjah, in order, will follow in merit.
