Question

Whilst reading fardh salah if I forget one ayaat during recitation, am I allowed to skip the ayaat to commence the next ayaat?

Answer

If, whilst leading Fardh Salaah, a person happens to forget an Aayat and if he has already recited a sufficient amount that will be appropriate for him to go into Ruku (i.e. one long Aayat or three short Aayaat), then it will be preferable that he goes into Ruku. If he wishes to continue by skipping the forgotten Aayat and commencing the next Aayat then there is no problem in this as long as he makes a complete stop between the two Aayaat. If he does not make a complete stop between the two Aayaat but does not incorrectly alter the meaning then the Salaah will not break. However, if he does incorrectly alter the meaning then this will cause the Salaah to break.
