Question

Please can you clarify the masala on discharge and if wudhu should be made for every salaah and should the underwear also be changed?

Answer

There are two types of discharges. The first type is that discharge that is from the external part of the female private part which is termed as the Farj-e-Khaarij. Normally, a sign that it is from the Farj-e-Khaarij is that it will have a very mild or no odour at all. Another sign of it is that it is not thick in texture and it is whitish or cloudy in colour. On the other hand, discharge from the Farj-e-Dhaakhil (internal portion of the female private part) is usually thick, yellow or green in colour and has a strong odour.

Nevertheless, the wetness and discharge that emits from the Farj-e-Khaarij is considered as Paak, meaning that there is no need for a fresh Wudhu. There is no need to change the underwear in this case. The second type of discharge emits from the internal portion of the female private part which is termed as the Farj-e-Dhaakhil is Najis (impure) and should be washed off. Such impurities nullify one’s Wudhu. If the impurity is on the underwear then it can be washed off or changed if need be.

If a woman finds it impossible or extremely difficult to discern between the two types of discharge, them precaution would dictate that she should consider the discharge to be impure and make a fresh Wudhu.
