Wearing A Watch With A Gold Mechanism
Question
Is a man allowed to wear such a watch which has an engine/mechanism made of gold?
The gold is not for decorations or Zeenat.
Answer
Yes it is fundamentally permissible to wear a watch the internal machine/mechanism of which is made of gold, but it will still be preferable to avoid it.
The reason you mentioned, “Zeenat” (beauty) is incorrect. The correct reason is “Isti`maalus-Zhahab” (utilizing gold by directly touching the gold portion). As the engine of the watch is concealed within the casing, one does not make direct contact with it, hence it will be permissible to wear such a watch.
