Using Breast Milk For Other Purposes
Question
Is it permissible to use breastmilk to treat other ailments on babies for example eczema, dry skin, cradle cap etc?
I was told that Muslims cannot use breastmilk for anything else except to feed the baby. Is this true? If so, would it be allowed to put breastmilk in their porridge or make a milk ice Lollie for them to suck on when teething as the milk will be digested and not put on the body?
Answer
Yes, it is true that breast milk can only be used to feed the baby and not for any other purposes. It can, however, be used to treat illnesses of the baby, as prescribed by a reliable Muslim doctor, on condition that there is no other alternative.
It will be permissible to mix the milk in the porridge or make a milk ice pop for them to suck on while they are teething, as long as they have not reached the age of two years as yet. After two years, it will impermissible.
It should also be noted that if another baby, besides one’s own baby, before the age of two, is given the breast milk of a certain woman to consume, even though it may be in the form of an ice pop or mixed with porridge, in such a way that the milk constitutes more than the porridge or is equal to it and the porridge is uncooked, then the Islaamic rules of fosterage will apply to that baby

وَفِي الْبَحْرِ : لَا يَجُوزُ التَّدَاوِي بِالْمُحَرَّمِ فِي ظَاهِرِ الْمَذْهَبِ، أَصْلُهُ بَوْلُ الْمَأْكُولِ كَمَا مَرَّ (قَوْلُهُ وَفِي الْبَحْرِ عِبَارَتُهُ وَعَلَى هَذَا أَيْ الْفَرْعِ الْمَذْكُورِ لَا يَجُوزُ الاِنْتِفَاعُ بِهِ لِلتَّدَاوِي. قَالَ فِي الْفَتْح : وَأَهْلُ الطَّبّ يُثبِتُونَ لِلَبَنِ الْبِنْتِ أَي الَّذِي نَزَلَ بِسَبَبٍ بِنْتِ مُرْضِعَةٍ نَفْعًا لِوَجَعِ الْعَيْنِ. وَاخْتَلَفَ الْمَشَايِخُ فِيهِ، قِيلَ لَا يَجُوزُ، وَقِيلَ يَجُوزُ إِذَا عَلِمَ أَنَّهُ يَزُولُ بِهِ الرَّمَدُ. وَلَا يَخْفَى أَنَّ حَقِيقَةَ الْعِلْمِ مُتَعَذِّرَةٌ، فَالْمُرَادُ إِذَا غَلَبَ عَلَى الظَّنِّ وَإِلَّا فَهُوَ مَعْنَى الْمَنْعِ اهـ.

سوال: کسی تکلیف کے باعث شوہر کو اپنی بیوی کا دودھ خالص یا کسی اور نسخہ کے ساتھ حلق اور آنکھ وغیرہ میں استعمال کرنا کیسا ہے ؟
جواب: جائز نہیں اپنی عورت کا ہو یا کسی اور عورت کا ہو سب کا نا جائز ہے…
