A Niyyat (Intention) Of Travelling Being A Requirement To Become A Musaafir
Question
Does a person become a Musafir by merely leaving the boundaries of the area he resides in, or must he intend to travel the Sharee Safar distance in order to become a Musafir?
Answer
A person who leaves the boundaries of his city (even if it be وطن اقامة – a place a person intends to stay for 15 days or more) intending to travel the distance of Shar’i Safar (78 km) or more will be classified as a Musaafir.
It is necessary for a person to make an intention of Safar, just merely leaving the city boundary without intending Safar will not classify a person as a Musaafir.
