Dua of Rajab
Question
The month of Rajab has dawned upon us and there is a famous du’aa that is recited:
اللهم بارك لنا في رجب و شعبان و بلغنا رمضان
Is the reciting of this du’aa masnoon or what is the ruling regarding the recital of this duaa? Are there any other masnoon du’aas one ought to recite in these months before ramadhaan welcoming ramadhaan?
Answer
This Hadeeth is weak due to some of the narrators in this Hadeeth. However, one can recite this Dua without regarding it to be Masnoon. For further information, you may refer to the detailed treatise of Moulana Fadhlur Rahman Saheb Aazmi Daamat-Barakaatuhu pertaining to this.
We have not come across any 100% authentic Hadeeth prescribing a Masnoon Dua that can be recited in these months before the coming of Ramadhaan. A person may however, make Dua in any language that Allah Ta’aala should preserve him and keep him healthy and well to witness the coming of Ramadhaan.

2346 – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ بْنِ أَبِي الرُّقَادِ، عَنْ زِيَادٍ النُّمَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا دَخَلَ رَجَبٌ، قَالَ: ” اللهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي رَجَبٍ وَشَعْبَانَ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي رَمَضَانَ ” وَكَانَ يَقُولُ: ” لَيْلَةُ الْجُمُعَةِ غَرَّاءُ، وَيَوْمُهَا أَزْهَرُ ” (2)
إسناده ضعيف، زائدة بن أبي الرقاد قال البخاري والنسائي: منكر الحديث، وقال أبو داود: لا أعرف خبره، وقال أبو حاتم: يحدث عن زياد النميري، عن أنس أحاديث مرفوعة منكرة ولا ندري منه أو من زياد، وزياد النميري -وهو ابن عبد الله- ضعفه ابن معين وأبو داود، وقال أبو حاتم: يكتب
