Spotting Discharges Prior To Monthly Menstruation
Question
What is the ruling of spotting pinkish or brownish discharge (sometimes with a trace/dot of blood) for 2 to 3 days prior to my monthly menstruation (blood). I would like to know if it is counted in my days of haidh or not.
Answer
If a woman notices pinkish or brownish discharges 2 or 3 days prior to her habitual monthly menstruation, she will only know for sure if she must count it as part of her monthly menstruation if she adds it to her actual menstruation. If collectively it is 10 days or less, it will be counted as part of her menstruation. This will be her new habit and the discharges will be considered as Haidh. However, if collectively they exceed the maximum Haidh period (i.e.10 days), she will then refer to her habit. Whatever of these days fall within her habit, will be Haidh and whatever falls out of her habit, before and after, will be considered as Istihadhah.
