Question

I suffer from pride. How should I remedy the problem?

Answer

Pride is a disastrous disease which is Haraam. It will harm a person in Dunya and Aakhirah. A proud person holds himself in high regard in this world, yet he is despised by all due to his pride, and will be deprived of Jannah in the hereafter. Hence, a person should sincerely repent from pride and remedy this illness by remaining in the company of a genuine Sheikh of Tasawwuf. It is generally very difficult for one to treat this illness on his own, even though he may have the relevant knowledge to do so, hence the need for a Sheikh. In conclusion, possessing pride is not permitted, even if one hates the disease in his heart. It is therefore obligatory on every individual to take treatment (for spiritual illnesses) from a spiritual doctor who is referred to as a “Sheikh-e-Kaamil”.

Ask Ibn Masood

Fatawa SA is an independent, read-only index of fatawa already published by Darul Ifta Ibn Masood. It is not a fatwa service. For your own situation, ask the issuing Darul Ifta directly.
