Question

Is it permissible to accept gifts (food items such as sweetmeats) from non-Muslims (Hindus) on their days of celebration?

Answer

If a Kaafir, such as a Hindu, gifts sweetmeats (that is free of any Haraam ingredients) to a Muslim on the occasion of Diwali, then it is not correct for the Muslim to accept it, particularly if it is known that they have prayed on it. If it is known with certainty that they haven’t uttered any prayers on it and it is Halaal, then it would be permissible to accept it.
