Fasting

Question

What is your view on “intermittent fasting” to lose weight?

Answer

Intermittent fasting is an eating plan that switches between fasting and eating on a regular schedule. During the times when you’re not eating, water and zero-calorie beverages such as, black coffee and tea are permitted. [internet-hopkinsmedicine.org] Obviously, this does not fit the Shari’ee definition of fasting (which is to refrain from eating, drinking and having relations with one’s spouse during the day with the intention of fasting), hence, a person will not get the reward of fasting, but will probably attain the health benefits of it. We do not find any issues with the fasting or dieting if carried out for medical reasons.
