Question

A person misses the Jumuah Khutbah but gets the Salaah. Is his Jumuah valid?

Answer

The day of Jumuah is indeed an auspicious and important day in the life of a Muslim. Every Muslim should make a concerted effort to ensure that he prepares himself well for the Jumuah Salaah and proceeds to the Masjid as early as possible.

Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam has mentioned several virtues regarding the day of Jumuah. We have quote two of these narrations below;

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “The best day on which the sun rises is the day of Jumuah, it was on this day that Adam Alaihis Salaam was created and it was on this day that he was granted entry into Jannah, and it was on this day that he was removed from Jannah. Qiyaamah will not take place except on the day of Jumuah.

Aus bin Aus Ath-Thaqafi Radiallahu Anhu narrated to me, I heard Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam saying: “Whoever takes Ghusl on the day of Jumuah, gets up early, walks (to the Masjid) and does not use a conveyance, remains close to the Imam, listens attentively (to the Khutbah) and does not get involved in any futile acts, then for every step that he takes he will receive the reward of one year’s fasting and standing (in Ibaadat) at night.

The importance of proceeding early for the Jumuah Salaah can be understood from these narrations.

Now coming to your query, if a person misses the Khutbah of Jumuah but gets the Jumuah Salaah then the Salaah be valid. However, one will be sinful for not listening to the Khutbah.
