“Tagging” contacts to enter a competition
Question
A follow up regarding the Fatwa entitled: “Forwarding an advert to enter a competition”
Will the same ruling apply to an Instagram giveaway with the following conditions:
1) Follow us @… and @…
2) Like the post
3) Tag 3 friends
Stand a chance to win “x prize “or a voucher to the value of “Rxxx”
Answer
Yes, the same ruling will be applicable. By tagging three people, you qualify to enter the competition, otherwise not, which in essence means that you are required to contribute with your labour to enter the competition, and there is no certainty in receiving the prize, hence it is not permissible.

وَحَقِيقَتُهُ تَمْلِيكُ الْمَالِ عَلَى الْمُخَاطَرَةِ (احكام القران للجصاص ص127 ج4)
وحقيقته تمليك المال على المخاطرة، وهو لا يجوز (نخب الأفكار ص69 ج16)
القاعدة في القمار هي: كل مال يدفع مقابل الحصول على مالمجهول, وقد يكون وقد لا يكون.
فهذا هو تعريف القمار, وإن اختلفت صوره, وتعددت طرقه, وهو حرام, من كبائر الذنوب بالإجماع
قال تعالى: {يا أيها الذين آمنوا إنما الخمر و الميسر و الأنصاب و الأزلام رجس من عمل الشيطان فاجتنبوه لعلكم تفلحون، إنما يريد الشيطان أن يوقع بينكم العداوة و البغضاء في الخمر و الميسر و يصدكم عن ذكر الله و عن الصلاة فهل أنتم منتهون} [سورة المائدة: الآيات 90: 91].
و قال تعالى: {يسألونك عن الخمر و الميسر قل فيهما إثمٌ كبير و منافع للناس و إثمهما أكبر من نفعهما} [سورة البقرة: الآية 219].
و الميسر والقمار، مأخوذ من اليسر و السهولة لأنه كسب بلا جهد و لا مشقة، قال مجاهد: كل القمار من الميسر حتى لعب الصبيان بالخرز.
