Public protests and rallies
Question
Recently, a protest in the name of Palestine was organized, along with other faith leaders and a woman who is a feminist and LGBTQ activist. Would such an activity be permissible, or should the public be warned to refrain from it?
Answer
Our Darul Ifta is not in favour of public rallies and protests as they comprise of various wrongs which are impermissible. When wrong is perpetrated, then instead of drawing the special mercy and assistance of Allah Ta’ala, we are distanced from Allah Ta’ala even further, hence worsening the problem. The solution to our problems lies in Salaah, Taubah, Istighfaar, Dua and in reforming our lives.
The Kitaabs of Fiqh state that it is permissible to warn people of the evil of an individual so that people may be protected from harm.
