Question

Please comment on the permissibility of donating blood and the impact that the blood would have on the recipient of the blood – does he/she become the donor’s blood relative?

Answer

Donating blood is permitted at a time of severe need. [Re:- Kifaayatul Mufti Pg. 154 Vol.9 / Ahsanul Fataawa Pg.273 Vol.8] Nowadays, a number of blood banks have been established in various parts of the country. These blood banks, after extracting the blood test it for diseases, ascertain the appropriate blood group and store it. The blood is then used at the time of necessity. There always exists a need for blood for patients in various hospitals around the country. As one is required to follow these stipulated procedures, one is permitted to donate blood in advance so that blood is readily available at the time of need.

Blood relations are not established due to blood transfusion.

Ask Ibn Masood

Fatawa SA is an independent, read-only index of fatawa already published by Darul Ifta Ibn Masood. It is not a fatwa service. For your own situation, ask the issuing Darul Ifta directly.
