Three things beloved to Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam
Question
I would like to know the interpretation and authenticity of the following Hadith,
The Messenger of Allah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said :“I was made to love three things from this world – perfume, women and prayer.”
Answer
The narration is recorded in Musnad Ahmad, Musnad Bazzaar, Mustakhraj Abu Awaana, Awsad of Tabrani and other Kitaabs of Hadith. The chain is classified as Hassan thus the narration is reliable.
Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam’s love for women and scent was not for the Dunya, but for his Aakhirah. There are many benefits in making Nikah and meeting the angels whilst wearing scent. Furthermore, scent spurs one onto engaging in intimacy and assists in it. So, in the case of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the love for women was for another reason and for suppressing his desires. However, his true and real love was in witnessing the power of Allah Ta’ala and engaging in conversation with Him. Therefore, he made a difference between the two conditions and said, “The coolness of eyes lie in Salaah.”
