Question
There is a message circulating on Whatsapp advertising an App for Haidh. Women are enquiring whether they can use the App and if everything on their website is in accordance with Shariah. Mention is made of Imam Muhammad Birgivi, whom we are not aware of.
Answer
Our Darul Ifta is not comfortable with females calculating their Haidh on any App. When females experience complications particularly due to usage of medication, it is possible that the App could fail to provide the correct answer. At times due to miscalculation, many Salaah may be omitted and will have to be repeated.
Also, a Mufti could pass a ruling on a more lenient view due to ease or necessity which may not be possible on an App. We therefore prefer a manual calculation by a Mufti who is well acquainted with the laws of Haidh.
