Question

In Aqeedah Tahawiyya by Moulana Faheem, it is mentioned that Oneness in the Attributes of Allah Ta’ala means that the likeness of His Attributes cannot be found in any other being, nor is any one of His Attributes multiple. Please explain what is meant by the Attributes of Allah Ta’ala not being multiple?

Answer

What this means is that each individual attribute of Allah Ta’ala is one and indivisible. It is not composed of any parts or copies.

For example, Allah Ta’ala has one attribute of knowledge; it is not that he has many separate knowledges.

Allah Ta’ala has one eternal attribute of power; it is not divided into multiple different powers.

These attributes relate to countless different things without themselves becoming multiple. Allah Ta’ala knows every created thing, but His attribute of Knowledge does not increase, decrease, or split into millions of separate knowledges.
