Aligning With A Mufti/ Darul Ifta
Question
Would the Darul Ifta I consult with be considered as my “Mufti”? I used the Behesti Zewar as my guide to Masaa’il before finding a Darul Ifta. However, I found a difference in Behesti Zewar to a question posed to the Darul Ifta. Which one should I give preference to so I can avoid “Fatwa shopping”?
Answer
In principle, Beheshti Zewar discusses the basic and elementary Masaa’il. As such, you may refer to Beheshti Zewar. However, for intricate Masaa’il, you should refer to a reputable Darul Ifta. It is best to refer and hold on to one Mufti regarding all your Masaa’il, otherwise this may lead to “Fatwa shopping” which, in essence, will be following your own base desires (Nafs).
Furthermore, we cannot understand how the rulings of Behesti Zewar and the Darul Ifta are different. If there is ambiguity or unclarity, you should inform the Darul Ifta about what you found in Behesti Zewar and the matter should be clarified. Perhaps it may be an error or misjudgement from their side or, it may be a misunderstanding from your side.

Fatawa SA is an independent, read-only index of fatawa already published by Darul Ifta Ibn Masood. It is not a fatwa service. For your own situation, ask the issuing Darul Ifta directly.
