Ownership Of Zakaah
Question
A person had a foreign employee, who then returned to his hometown. To assist him in returning to South Africa, his employer gave his Zakaah to the transporter to bring him back. Is the Zakaah discharged?
Answer
In the queried scenario, one’s Zakaah will not be discharged as the recipient of Zakaah has not taken possession of the Zakaah. It is a condition that for one’s Zakaah to be correctly discharged, the recipient of Zakaah must take possession of it first. As such, you should make some arrangements to get the money to the recipient of Zakaah, then he may pay the driver.
