Test Tube Babies
Question
I want to ask about test tube babies. My husband is unfit and we can’t go for test tube baby even. So if I get a fused egg from a married couple with their permission and go for test tube, it will be a right process according to Islam? Please guide me, I have no choice other than this.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is impermissible to insert a fused egg from another couple into ones womb to get pregnant due to the following reasons.
Semen not being of the husband
Mixing of lineage
Semen not being of the husband
Inserting semen into a woman other than that of the husband is haraam. Consider the following:
The Prophet (sallalahu alayhi wa sallam) has said:
سنن أبي داود (2/ 248)
Translation:
It is impermissible for a man who believes in Allah and the day of judgement to waters what another has sown with his water.
Mixing of lineage
Although the semen is not from the husband, if the wife gives birth the child will be attributed to the husband and not the donor of the semen. Consider the following:
الوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ
Translation:
The child is for the owner of the bed
Since the wife’s egg was not used, but an egg of another woman, she will be classified as the mother. However, due to the wife giving birth to the child, she will also be seen as the mother. Consider the following:
Translation:
Their mothers are only those who have given birth to them
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
