Question
Is it permissible to sterilize pets (for example, cats & birds)? Also, can we castrate cattle (calves) to improve the quality of the meat?
Answer
It will be permissible sterilize pets if there is a need. (Fatawa Mahmoodiyyah, Vol: 17, Pg: 340, Farooqiyyah)
It is also permissible to castrate cattle and sheep to improve the quality of the meat. In fact, it is Mustahab (preferable) to slaughter a castrated animal for Qurbani. It is recorded in the Hadith that when Nabi Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam used to do Qurbani, he used to purchase two castrated sheep.
