Ṣalāh on a Boat
Question
Assalam Alaikum
Mufti Saheb whats the masalah on salah on a boat
Answer
As salām ʿalaikum wa raḥmatullāhī wa barakātuhū
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Performing ṣalāh on a boat is permissible. Take note of the following rulings:
- If one is able to stand, it will be necessary to do so.
- Similarly, one will be required to complete the rukūʿ and sajdah postures, if able to do so.
- One must face the direction of the qiblah. If the boat turns, the person praying will also adjust their direction.
- If the boat is anchored to the shore, it would not be permitted to perform one’s ṣalāh seated.
And Allāh Taʿālā knows best.

(صلى الفرض في فلك) جار (قاعدا بلا عذر صح) لغلبة العجز (وأساء) وقالا: لا يصح إلا بعذر وهو الأظهر برهان (والمربوطة في الشط كالشط) في الأصح (والمربوطة بلجة البحر إن كان الريح يحركها شديدا فكالسائرة وإلا فكالواقفة) ويلزم استقبال القبلة عند الافتتاح وكلما دارت
(قوله وهو الأظهر) وفي الحلية بعد سوق الأدلة: والأظهر أن قولهما أشبه فلا جرم أن في الحاوي القدسي وبه نأخذ. اهـ (قوله ويلزم استقبال القبلة إلخ) أي في قولهم جميعا بحر
