Zakaat on property
Question
Which amount zakaat should be paid on, rent received or value of rental investment property?
Answer
If the property has not been purchased for resale purposes, then Zakaat is only payable on the rent received. Hence, when calculating one's zakaat, one will pay zakaat on the rent that is in one's possession at that time together with the other zakaatable assets that are in one's possession.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
