Having the belief that Allah Ta'ala has power over all things

AqaaidAllah Ta'alaaqaaidspeaking lies

Question

I have heard muftis saying that it is wrong to say that Allah Ta'ala has the power to lie. Defects are not under His Qudrat, since lying is a defect and Allah Ta'ala is free from all defects.

Answer

There is no need for all and sundry to discuss these types of topics. It is like if someone were to ask you that can you eat a spoon of excreta, you will feel very much distraught. Hence, it is enough for you to believe that Allah Ta`ala has power over all things.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Fatawa SA is an independent, read-only index of fatawa already published by Mufti Online — Madrasah Ta'leemuddeen. It is not a fatwa service. For your own situation, ask the issuing Darul Ifta directly.
