Question

Two senior ulama, Ml Salman Nadwi and Ml. Sajjad of India, in their bayans in South Africa, stated that the verse: Innama Yakhsha Allaha min ibadihi al-ulama, refers to secular subjects like science, etc. Is this correct. Who does ‘ulama’ refer to in this verse of the Quran.

Answer

How can this ever be correct when the Khulafaa-e-Raashideen and the Sahaabah-e-Kiraam (radhiyallahu anhum) did not go for any type of secular education and they were akhshan-naas. If this refers to secular education it will mean that some aspects of khashyat is not in their lives. Secular education is sought only for the physical and material well-being. It doesn't connect you and encourage you to the hereafter in the least.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
