Question

Regarding the fasts of Aashura, I came across an article that states: In fact Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) states: Fasting on the ninth, tenth and eleventh of Muharram is on the highest level of preference. (Fathul Bari, under Hadith: 2000) Is this correct? Can it be practised?

Answer

It is permissible to fast on the 9th, 10th and 11th of Muharram, though through fasting on the 9th and the 10th or 10th and 11th the sunnah will be obtained. The purpose for fasting two days is to oppose the Jews.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
