Question

I am a woman who lives in Canada and I need to get my passport renewed in order to go to Turkey where the rest of my family has settled. I am not financially independent so I cannot live here on my own. However the place where I need to go to get my passport renewed is over 100 km from where I live. I have no mahrams here and my father who is in Turkey is not religious and would not come to Canada just to drive me 100 km to get my passport. I can drive myself but I know that I cannot go that far without a mahram normally. In this situation can I just drive myself? If not what would you advise I do?

Answer

The safer thing will be that you do not go alone. Rather you go with a group of reliable women.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Ask Mufti Online

Fatawa SA is an independent, read-only index of fatawa already published by Mufti Online — Madrasah Ta'leemuddeen. It is not a fatwa service. For your own situation, ask the issuing Darul Ifta directly.
