Question

What is the rulling about zaalims (oppressors), can you explain the definition of an oppressor?

Answer

The word zaalim literally translates as 'oppressor' or 'transgressor'. However, in the terminology of the Qur'aan and Hadith, it is used in one of three contexts.

The first is where a person wrongs himself through committing sins.

The second is where a person commits shirk and denies the zaat of Allah Ta'ala or his sifaat.

The third is where a person oppressors any of the creation or transgressors the limits of Shari'ah when dealing with them.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
