Question

I want to know regarding the 4 rakaat sunnah of Asar namaaz. I have read in a book that it is not part of Asar namaaz because the evidence is not there that Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) prayed this sunnah regularly. Would you please enlighten me on this matter.

Answer

This is incorrect. It is established from Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). However, since Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) at times performed these four rakaats and times did not perform it, these four rakaats are regarded as sunnah ghair muakkadah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
