Assisting one's sister who lost her husband
Question
Does my father have to take responsibility of his sister whose husband died but she has a son whose age is 20+? Will my father be a sinner if he doesn't take responsibility of his sister? The son is unemployed.
Answer
Her son is supposed to take care of her if she is in need of financial support. However, in the case where the son is poor and unable to take care of his mother, then (if her parents are not alive) the other heirs (i.e. those who will inherit from her after her demise) will also have to assist. Therefore, your father should help his sister.
