Question

With the ongoing unrest in South Africa against foreigners, many masaajid have Imaams and Muazzins that are foreigners. Will it be permissible for a person to release these Imaams and Muazzins based on the intention being to protect the masjid, especially in places where there are threats to masaajid with the authorities and people who are waiting in ambush during salaah times to apprehend our respected brothers? Can Mufti Saheb please advise.

Answer

If the muazzin wishes to go back to his country due to the unrest, then the masjid committee should allow him to go and they should assist him to the best of their ability. However, if the muazzin does not want to go back to his country and is happy to stay in South Africa and continue rendering service for deen, then if he has legal papers, he should be allowed to continue his service.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
