Zakaat on Kruger coins
Question
Please advise me on whether zakat is payable on the selling price of a kruger coin or on the market value of an ounce of gold. The selling value of a kruger coin is more than the value of an ounce of gold although the kruger coin weighs an ounce.

On the market price of the Kruger coin.

ولو كان له إبريق فضة وزنه مائتان وقيمته ثلاثمائة إن أدى خمسة من عينه فلا كلام أو من غيره جاز عندهما خلافا لمحمد وزفر إلا أن يؤدي الفضل وأجمعوا أنه لو أدى من خلاف جنسه اعتبرت القيمة حتى لو أدى من الذهب ما تبلغ قيمته خمسة دراهم من غير الإناء لم يجز في قولهم لتقوم الجودة عند المقابلة بخلاف الجنس فإن أدى القيمة وقعت عن القدر المستحق (رد المحتار 2/297)
