Husband and wife becoming partners in a sewing machine due to them jointly purchasing it
Question
I wanted to buy a sewing machine for R5500. I paid R500 and my husband paid the remaining R5000. Who does the machine belong to?
Answer
Since your money and your husband’s money was jointly used to purchase the machine, it will belong to both of you proportionately. However, if your husband bought it for you and gifted his portion to you then it will belong to you.
