Mobile games and music
Question
I have formed a company of programmers and developers to develop mobile games and applications. There are three sources of revenue:
1. Sell the game.
2. Make it free and gain revenue from advertisements in the applications and games.
3. Keep it partly free and partly under sale (in app purchases).
I have ensured that my apps and games will not contain anything vulgar or shameless. However, they will contain music. Is this permissible?
Answer
Music is haraam in Islam. Hence, you should refrain from this type of occupation.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

عن عبد الرحمن بن غنم الأشعري قال حدثني أبو عامر أو أبو مالك الأشعري والله ما كذبني سمع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول ليكونن من أمتي أقوام يستحلون الحر والحرير والخمر والمعازف ولينزلن أقوام إلى جنب علم يروح عليهم بسارحة لهم يأتيهم يعني الفقير لحاجة فيقولون ارجع إلينا غدا فيبيتهم الله ويضع العلم ويمسخ آخرين قردة وخنازير إلى يوم القيامة (صحيح البخاري، الرقم: 5590)
وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَنۡ یَّشۡتَرِیۡ لَهوَ الۡحَدِیۡثِ لِیُضِلَّ عَنۡ سَبِیۡلِ اللّٰه بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمٍ وَّ یَتَّخِذَها هُزُوًا ؕ اُولٰٓئِکَ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ مُّهیۡنٌ (لقمٰن: 6)
عن أبي الصهباء البكري أنه سمع عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه وهو يسأل عن هذه الآية وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَنۡ یَّشۡتَرِیۡ لَهوَ الۡحَدِیۡثِ لِیُضِلَّ عَنۡ سَبِیۡلِ اللّٰه ، فقال عبد الله الغناء والله الذي لا إله إلا هو يرددها ثلاث مرات (تفسير ابن كثير 6/330)
