Profile pictures of animate objects on Whatsapp
Question
On whatsapp, which is an instant messaging service for smartphones, people can post a profile for themselves. Many people post a photograph of themselves, other people or other animate objects. Is this permissible? Please explain.
Answer
No. Photography is counted as one of the most serious major sins for which the hadeeth sounds the curse of Allah Ta`ala and warns about the most severest punishment of the day of Qiyaamat.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
