Question

When we see the full moon then should we recite this dua: Allhumma inni aoozubika min sharri haazal Ghasiq? What is meant by the full moon being darkness?

Answer

Yes, we should recite this dua.

Some commentators explain that Ghaasiq refers to the darkness of the night whilst others explain that Ghaasiq refers to the moon. Since the night is the time when most sins and evil deeds are carried out e.g. sorcery and black magic, theft, murder etc., Rasulullah (Salllallahu Alaihi Wasallam) had taught the Ummah to seek Allah Ta'alaa's refuge against the darkness of the night.
