What is the length of the beard in Islam?

“It is impermissible (makrooh-e-tahreemi) to appoint a person who shaves his beard or trims it less than one fist length as the Imaam. However, if such a person is appointed as the Imaam, the sin will not be upon the musallis, but rather upon the Imaam and upon those who appointed him as the Imaam.”

“You state you naturally do not have beard hair on the sides. It is not permissible to unnecessarily change one’s natural appearance as that will be altering the creation of Allah which is prohibited.”

“It would be permissible to trim the beard around the face to an even length provided that you do not trim it to less than a fist. The trimming of the beard to less than a fist (from all three sides of the face) is not permissible according to all four schools of thought (i.e. Hanafi, Shafi’, Maliki and Hanbali).”

“A person who shaves or trims his beard to less than a fist length is certainly termed as a Faasiq. Allama Shaami Rahimahullah has written: It is Haraam upon a man to cut his beard.”
