Reciting Durood Shareef When Smelling Fragrance

It is recommended to send blessings and salutations upon the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلمwhen smelling pure perfume or any pleasant fragrance. It is stated in Fataawa Razviyyah Shareef that Imam Ibn Hajar Makki Alaihir Rahmah says:

"When a person takes or smells a pure perfume, he should remember that our Beloved Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلمloved fragrance and often used it. By recalling this beautiful Sunnah, one should send Durood Shareef upon him صلى الله عليه وسلم, so that love and respect for the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلمbecome deeply rooted in the heart.

Whenever someone sees anything that reminds him of the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلمor his blessed belongings, he should imagine the radiant presence of the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلمwith deep reverence. How, then, could such an act be disliked? In fact, it is a deed of great virtue and reward. The scholars have stated that reciting Durood Shareef when visiting or seeing the noble relics of the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلمis a recommended act. Therefore, if a person smells pure perfume and remembers that the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلمloved fragrance, it is as if he is spiritually beholding some of the blessed relics. At such a time, sending abundant blessings and salutations upon the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلمis a beautiful Sunnah filled with reward and Barakah.
