Divorce by letter
Question
As salamualikum. If anyone divorce his wife on writing and if she does not see the writing is divorce take place? Another thing she heard it from his relative and she asked him you divorced me ? He was silent. Does it mean he divorced her. her brother saw only the envelope not what written inside. But they were told by his family member that he is going to send divorce letter. Can you please let know as soon as possible as I am lost with so many muftis. They all telling different thing. Jazakhallah

The divorce will depend on the wordings of the letter. Someone other than the wife should ask the husband regarding his words in the letter. You may then forward us the exact wordings used in the letter and we will advise accordingly. You may revert to us at [email protected].
