You are only liable to fulfil the kafārah
Question
I had sweared upon Allah, that i wont play soccer. I asked Mufti sahib about the kaffara if i had to play again, he said fast for 3 days or give clothes/food to 10 miskeens. I said okay.
When i went to play, i might just kicked the ball 8-9 times with another as we were waiting for everybody to come but no one turned up and the play wasn't possible and i left. Am i now liable to pay the kaffara or was i liable to pay kaffara only when i would have played the game?
Answer
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
You are only liable to fulfil the kafārah when you play a game of soccer and not just by kicking the ball.[1]
The kafārah for breaking an oath is to feed ten poor people two average meals, or to give clothing to ten poor people that is sufficient to conceal their bodies. However, if one is unable to fulfil any of the above due to a valid reason, one should fast for three consecutive days.[2]
